Ever stop to wonder about your life and thought: “Is this it?” Let’s face it. Our lives are busy. We make thousands of choices every day with lots of options vying for our attention.
I’m concerned because I noticed I’m feeling a little numb these days. What do I mean by numb? It’s that sense of just going through the motions. I get up and do today what I did yesterday. Why? Well, because it’s what I do! But recently, I’m realizing that I’m just going from day to day without really reflecting on whether I’m going anywhere meaningful.
This is the stuff mid-life crises are made up of. You suddenly wake up and wonder, “How did I get here!? This was never part of the plan!” My daughter is a senior and my son a sophomore this year. My active parenting years are almost over. Things are about to switch dramatically in my life. This is causing me to think about what parts of my life bring me joy and what needs to change. What I found is that it really comes full circle to all the steps in the Vibrantly Live System™!
1. I need to be clear on what’s truly important to me and why. It’s all about getting rid of non-essentials.
2. I must take care of myself in order to have the mental and physical energy necessary.
3. Having a clear vision for my purpose at this stage in my life allows decisions to be made easily.
4. Experiencing meaningful relationships makes life richer. We were not created to do life alone, so finding ways to nurture and develop those relationships is a must for me.
I need to spend some time looking at each of these 4 areas for this point in my life. It’s time to re-calibrate. That’s not a bad thing! I recently read that we should re-evaluate where we are every 6 months and make adjustments as necessary. Why? It’s about being intentional in order to avoid the numbness.
In the next couple of weeks, I plan to begin that re-evaluation process. So, how about you? I challenge you to think through these 4 areas in your life. Make sure you’re on course and re-calibrate as necessary.
